JOSEPH GORDON GRANT

Joseph Gordon Grant, 68, died peacefully August 28th at Hospice House in Savannah.
Mr. Grant was the son of Mary Kelly Grant of Savannah and Chester Lonzelle Grant of New York, New York, both of whom preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Cathedral School and Benedictine Military School. After earning Baccalaureate and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia, he served as an officer in the United States Navy. Following careers in trust banking, commercial real estate and teaching, Mr. Grant owned an antiques restoration and custom cabinetry business, J.G. Grant & Co. A lifelong advocate of historic preservation and the arts, he was involved with the Historic Savannah Foundation, the Telfair Academy of Arts, the Savannah History Museum, the Gibbes Museum in Charleston, South Carolina, and many other organizations.
Also a talented writer, Mr. Grant was the author of two novels, "Goliath's Legacy" and "The Golden Mask". He researched material for his writing during extensive travels abroad and annual visits to Anam Cara Artist's and Writer's Retreat on the Beara Peninsula in Ireland where he taught fiction writing in the summer months.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Savannah artist, Lynne Summerell Grant, who died at Hospice House on June 19th, 2006.
Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Kelly and David Flick; his grandson, Evan Flick; cousins Joseph Kelly, Lawrence Kelly, Eugene Kelly, Mary Anne Kelly, Sheila Kelly Suhr, Lucille Kelly Barber, Patricia F. Kelly, Dorothy Kelly McKnight, Ann Kelly Smith, Barbara Kelly Britz, Patricia Kelly, and many devoted friends.
Visitation: Thursday, August 31, 2006 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
Graveside Memorial Service: Friday, September 1, 2006 10:00 a.m. at the Catholic Cemetery.
